As a sell out 15,008 crowd settled in to watch Super League’s top two battle it out on Good Friday, it was hard to believe that this derby has been missing from more than half of Super League’s 21 seasons to date.
Widnes’ lengthy stints in the second tier, from 1996 to 2001 and more recently 2006 to 2011, has meant Warrington’s local rivalry focus has shifted towards St Helens and Wigan, particularly in the last five years or so as they’ve fought for honours at the top table.

St Helens ban live streaming of press conferences – are they right?
There’s been a storm brewing over press conferences in rugby league for a while.
Following the opening game of the Super League season on Thursday night, St Helens issued a statement saying that live streaming and Periscoping of their press conferences is not permitted, ahead of their own opener at home to Huddersfield.
“The conferences are for press to grab their copy for their deadlines – sending out the full conference live effectively trumps all those that are there”

A match to celebrate the life of late rugby league player Danny Jones has raised more than £25,000. A Halifax Select XIII took on a World side, which includes the likes of Lee Briers, Robbie Hunter-Paul and Iestyn Harris in their ranks, at Shay Stadium.
