Army veteran Harry Davies hopes to see plenty of people joining him in the 2016 Viking Stronghold when he’s selling Poppies in Tesco this week.
The 77-year-old has already been in to the Vikings Superstore to sign up for his full Membership, and will be posted nearby to the shop from October 29th until Saturday 7th selling Poppies for the Royal British Legion ahead of Remembrance Day.
Harry lives in Ditton and has been following Widnes since the age of 17.
He said: “My favourite players, well it has to be Martin Offiah obviously. He was brilliant, so fast. I’ve seen so many down the years though.
“Jimmy Measures, the second-rower, he was a cracking player. He was really fast too for a forward. You could go on!”
Harry, who is also the Treasurer for the Royal Artillery Association in Widnes, spent three years in the army and went on to join the Territorials in Widnes in the 1970s.
The South Stander has spent a large part of his life as a lorry driver too.
He added: “The Viking Stronghold seems to be building some momentum. We’ve got some new players that have come in, so we’ll have to see how they go.
“I suppose if you’ve only got so much money, then there’s only so many players you can get in and that’s why you need more people to sign up.”
Full Membership includes entry to all home Super League and Super 8s fixtures, as well (list at end of story) as a raft of benefits such as a free Magic Weekend ticket, discount on Ladbrokes Challenge Cup fixtures, Priority ticket purchase and 10% discount in the Vikings Superstore.
A General Membership (priced at £50) is a great way of making savings even for people you know who are not regular visitors to the Select Security Stadium, with discounts for a huge range of food, home, motor, gardening and fitness outlets alongside day to day service providers throughout the local borough.
