Manchester Giants snatched an incredible victory at Worcester Wolves in the most dramatic of circumstances to win 89-88.
Trailing by seven points with just 37 seconds left, the Giants landed four three-pointers in the finale, including Moritz Lanegger’s buzzer-beater at the end to secure back-to-back victories.
Two big three-pointers from Anastasios Traianos kept the Giants alive late on, and they were given a window opportunity by a Wolves free-throw miss as time ran out.
It was by far the tightest game of the season for the Giants, who had seemed in control for much of the first half only to go in at half time tied at 41-41.
In-form Jerelle Okoro, who top scored with 21, led the way in the third quarter as the Giants established a four point lead going in to the final 10 minutes.
But the Wolves came out firing, and within minutes had overturned the deficit and took control themselves.
Richard Bell got in to foul trouble at 75-70, and the Giants were still five points behind as the game ticked towards the final minute.
Sam Toluwase missed a three-point attempt at 84-77, but a turnover was followed by a successful bucket from Okoro and that made it 84-80 with 0:26 to play.
A foul brought Daniel Huffor to the line for the Wolves, and after he missed one from two, Traianos responded with a pinpoint three-pointer to bring the Giants within two with 0:21 on the clock.
But it looked like the Wolves would hold their nerve when they went two from two following another penalty, before Traianos stepped up once again to land a monster three with just 0:07 left to bring the scores within one.
Another foul was committed, and the Wolves missed one of their two attempts leaving the Giants within two points with seven seconds to play.
The ball was moved up court by Callum Jones and he found Lanegger who found enough room to get a shot away and find the basket, to the joy of the travelling team who mobbed the Austrian on the court to mark a first on the road win of the season.
Okoro 21 points, Lanegger 16 points/7 assists
