Wales captain Lloyd White has signed a two-year contract extension with Widnes to keep him at the Vikings until the end of 2018.
Hooker White, 27, will more than likely reach the milestone of a century of appearances for Widnes this season, having scored 117 points in 88 games since arriving ahead of the Club’s return to Super League in 2012.
Supporters will remember that he kicked the winning drop-goal in the Vikings first win in that 2012 campaign, a 37-36 victory over Wigan Warriors, and he has since gone on to establish himself as a key part of the first team squad.
Vikings head coach Denis Betts said: “Lloyd has been with us for a long time and every year he is getting better and better.
“He’s on the cusp of fulfilling his potential, he’s had a few injury problems that he’s now got over, and as a player he can be whatever he wants to be.
“He can be one of the best number nines in Super League.
“Lloyd’s very ambitious and I’m glad that he feels he can realise those ambitions with us.
“We wanted him to be secure about his future as we can only see him getting better and better. Stability in key positions is paramount to success, and he understands me, he understands the club and it makes for a great environment.”
Lloyd White said: “The Club approached me about a new deal and it was an easy decision to make. My family and I are settled here, and the boys are great to be around.
“I’ve been a bit unlucky in the last couple of years with injuries which is frustrating, but it’s part of the game. Hopefully this year I can concentrate on being more consistent.
“Reaching the top eight is the minimum we want to achieve this season. There’s no point being in this league if you aren’t aiming to reach that top eight.
“Playing for Widnes is my number one priority and I can see myself finishing my career here.”
You can see Lloyd White in action for the Vikings in the next pre-season friendly against Halifax on Sunday at the Select Security Stadium (3pm).
