Wright Robinson Sport College

Ground #84  |  Home to  |  Capacity:  |  Opened in

A slightly strange venue for professional sport, Wright Robinson College is a tidy facility.

It was the home of Manchester Giants in their first year after re-forming, and the compact nature of the venue certainly made the games atmospheric. Although the MEN Arena carries much greater prestige for basketball, the benefit of the college is that it’s packed out and the atmosphere is electric.

Although located not far from the M60, the ring road around Manchester, the college is tucked away inside a housing estate. There is plenty of parking on-site, which makes it convenient enough to attend.

Upon entering the venue, there is a ticket stall and then entry to the arena is through two side doors.

There is some hospitality at a higher level, but by and large the majority of the crowd is situated on bleachers that pull out from the wall.

One of the positives of this venue is that there isn’t a whole host of other sports lined painted on the court – which is sometimes to the detriment of basketball, especially at a professional level.

All in all, this is a tidy facility for a semi-professional or college team – for the Giants, they soon grew out of it and moved on.
