The Vikings 2015 Players’ Player of the Year Aaron Heremaia has signed a one-year contract extension to keep him at the Select Security Stadium until at least the end of 2017.
Heremaia was an ever-present for the Vikings in his debut year for the club last season, having joined from Super League rivals Hull, and his performances earned him the end of year gong voted for by his team-mates.
The former New Zealand international hooker crossed for four tries, sharing the number nine role with Wales captain Lloyd White.
Heremaia said: “I’m really enjoying my time here and I’m very happy to stay. It’s a very professional set-up here and it was an easy decision to commit for another year.
“We’ve got some good players coming in, with (Setaimata) Sa, Chris (Bridge), (Chris) Houston and Corey (Thompson) and the Club keeps making little gains in all areas to move forward. If we can try and be a bit more consistent then we will do better than last year and reach the top eight.
“My body’s fine and I feel fresh. I’m one of the oldest boys in the team, so it’s important that we mentor the young guys. The future looks bright at the Club with some of the kids coming through.”
Vikings Head Coach, Denis Betts, said: “Aaron does everything you want from a player. He is fantastic to have around the place and we didn’t want to risk losing him at the end of the year.
“His character and his ability is second to one. Not only did he not miss a game, but he didn’t miss a training session either. He turns up every day with a smile on his face, gets the job done and works really hard, and for someone with that amount of experience to do that, it’s a pleasure.”
